Grad Student Guide
WSIL News & Views April 9th. 2007, 1:36pmChan-Byoung made a good post on this topic a while back, and I think we should have some discussion of this based on this guide that I’ve started reading recently.
One of my initial observations is that each student should assume most of the responsibility of “being a good graduate student,” but that the advisor should help the student to some extent in this regard. If I had been proactive enough to look for these online guides two (or even four) years ago, hmmm…
Robert, do you have any thoughts on this?

This guide is interesting. I’ve seen other similar guides as well. There are certainly many good points raised in the guide but it would be nice to have a guide customized for our group.
Naturally I am trying to help my students be good graduate students. I know what it takes to be a good gradaute student but every student is different. The challenge for me is finding the right set of inputs to drive a student to be successful. It is much easier when students are proactive instead of reactive.
